It doesn’t make sense to call ourselves ugly, because we don’t really see ourselves. We don’t watch ourselves sleeping in bed, curled up and silent with chests rising and falling with our own rhythm. We don’t see ourselves reading a book, eyes fluttering and glowing. You don’t see yourself looking at someone with love and care inside your heart. There’s no mirror in your way when you’re laughing and smiling and happiness is leaking out of you. You would know exactly how bright and beautiful you are if you saw yourself in the moments where you are truly yourself.

You shouldn’t ever have to change who you are for the sake of pleasing someone else. You don’t owe comfort or conformity or being attractive to anyone. If someone has an issue with who you are or the way you present yourself, that’s their problem, not yours. You don’t have to internalize other people’s judgement. It isn’t easy. In fact, it’s probably one of the most difficult things any of us will try to do. But it’s so important. You don’t live your life for other people. You need to do what feels right to you. And more than anything, you need to make your happiness a priority.
